The Marien Hospital Witten invites applications for the following position that is to be filled as soon as possible:
post of a university professor (analogous to pay scale W3) as the Director of the Clinic for Paediatric Surgery (successor to Prof. Dr. med. Ralf-Bodo Tröbs)
One of the duties of the professorship is the management of the Department of Paediatric Surgery – University Hospital at the Marien Hospital Witten, whose range of treatment includes all surgically relevant diseases in preterm and new-born infants as well as children and adolescents. The clinic has all the structural requirements to ensure the maximum care of these patients.
The clinic formerly located in Herne is now a central part of a paediatric medical centre at the Marien Hospital Witten, which includes a large clinic for obstetrics, a clinic for paediatrics and neonatology, a long-standing experienced paediatric anaesthesia department and paediatric radiological care unit (including DEGUM III) besides paediatric surgery. The expansion and integration of the paediatric surgical intensive care unit into the Witten Perinatal Centre Level 1 and the intensive care unit there will enable patients of the Department of Paediatric Surgery to benefit from a very high standard of intensive care. As a whole, these services are only available at a few clinics in this concentration and act as a beacon for the region. The Chair of Paediatric Surgery of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum is currently the only independent chair of this subject in North Rhine-Westphalia. Its declared goal is to do justice to its responsibilities with scientific excellence and a full range of clinical services of the highest quality.
The prospective job holder is expected to have high-level professional and academic qualifications along with broad experience across the entire field of paediatric surgery. Leadership ability, social, organisational and communication skills are required. In addition, didactic skills, teaching experience and the ability run a clinic in a target-oriented and economical way are indispensable. A high level of commitment in the university and clinical area as well as close cooperation with the other specialist departments of the hospital, other facilities of the St Elisabeth Group and participation in the existing research areas and development areas of the Medical Faculty of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum are also required. The concrete clinical and scientific cooperation between the Children's Hospital St Josef-Hospital University Clinic of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum – under the direction of University Professor Dr. med. Thomas Lücke – is to be strengthened and further expanded. A positive evaluation as a junior professor, a postdoctoral lecture qualification or equivalent scientific achievements as well as an aptitude for teaching and the willingness to participate in academic self-administration are prerequisites.
The following are also required:
• a high degree of commitment to teaching
• the willingness to engage in interdisciplinary scientific work
• the willingness and ability to attract third-party funded research projects
Employment will be on the basis of a private law employment contract, which includes the right to invoice private patients (Liquidationsrecht). Affiliation with the university shall be in accordance with Article 9 (2) HG NRW (University & College Act of the State of NRW).
