Professor - male or female (W2 equivalent) as Head of the

Radiosurgery and Stereotactic Precision Radiotherapy Department

has arisen, which will be filled at the next available opportunity.

The Clinic for Radiotherapy and Radio Oncology of the Marien Hospital Herne – University Hospital of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum is one of the largest and best equipped radiotherapy institutions in the Bochum/Herne region and has comprehensive specialist expertise. The clinic treats approximately 1,500 in- and outpatients annually.

The holder of the position shall specialise in radiosurgery and stereotactic precision radiotherapy in hospitals, research and teaching within the radiotherapy and radio oncology discipline. The new professor will take over the management of the new Gamma Knife Centre with a neuro-oncology treatment focus, located at the Universitätsklinikum Knappschaftskrankenhaus Bochum within the clinic for radiotherapy and radio oncology. He/she is expected to cooperate closely with the working groups active there, particularly with the clinics for neurosurgery, neurology, radiology, neuroradiology and nuclear medicine as well as with the head-throat tumour centre and the oncology centre (Ruhr-Universität Comprehensive Cancer Center – RUCCC). Furthermore, he/she shall strengthen translational oncology research through partnership with existing science and development centres of focus in the medical faculty.


We are looking for a highly qualified person with comprehensive knowledge and experience in stereotactic radiotherapy and radiosurgery of the nervous system. The candidate should be a specialist for neurosurgery, have skills in radiation protection for teletherapy and have distinguished himself/herself through accredited academic activities and clinic experience as well as having well-founded experience in teaching.

The candidate is required to have a positively evaluated junior professorship, habilitation (postdoctoral qualification) or equivalent academic achievements, and pedagogic aptitude as well as the willingness to participate in the academic self-management.

The following qualities are also expected:

  • a firm commitment to teaching
  • the willingness to participate in interdisciplinary academic work
  • the willingness and ability to attract third-party funds for research projects

The appointment procedure will be carried out by the Ruhr-Universität Bochum in agreement with
St. Elisabeth Gruppe GmbH – Katholische Kliniken Rhein-Ruhr as sponsor of the Clinic for Radiotherapy and Radio Oncology in the Marien Hospital Herne - University Hospital of Ruhr-Universität Bochum. The appointment will take place on the basis of an AT contract, based on the collective wage agreement of the Marburger Bund for doctors at university hospitals. Spare-time work and insolvency rights will be granted according to special agreement. Attachment to the university will take place according to § 9 (2) HG NRW.
