The UK-RUB stands for medical treatment at the highest level as well as excellent research and teaching in university medicine.

The University Clinic Knappschaft Hospital Bochum of the Faculty of Medicine of the Ruhr University Bochum invites applicants for a tenured PROFESSORSHIP (W2) in the field of protein science for translational proteomics and metabolomics at the Clinic for Anaesthesiology, Intensive Care and Pain Therapy. The protein research at Ruhr University Bochum is integrated into the P.U.R.E. (Protein Research Unit within Europe) consortium and into the future Institute for Molecular Protein Diagnostics (ProDi).


This professorship includes the direction of the Department for Translational Proteomics and Metabolomics at the Clinic for Anaesthesiology, Intensive Care and Pain Therapy at the University Clinic Knappschaft Hospital Bochum. Applicants should be scientists holding a doctorate or medical specialization in anaesthesiology. Applicants should have a scientific profile in the field of proteomics with a research focus on protein analytics and/or metabolomics.

It is expected that the future holder of the position co-operates closely with the University Clinic of the Ruhr University Bochum. Active co-operation and participation in the research fields of the Medical Faculty of the Ruhr University Bochum are self-evident. Integration into the faculty’s research in protein science as well as the co-operation with the research department of neuroscience are expected. The professorship is involved in the teaching of biochemistry as part of the Integrated Reform Study Program Medicine (iRM) and in the overall teaching of the iRM within the framework of a modular teaching concept.

Positive evaluation as a junior professor, habilitation or equivalent academic qualifications as well as pedagogic aptitude and the willingness to participate in the academic self-administration are required.

  • Participation in interdisciplinary scientific work
  • Higher education didactic competencies including a high level of commitment in teaching
  • Certificates for special aptitude for academic teaching
  • Willingness and ability to procure externally funded research projects

The appointment process is conducted by the Ruhr-University Bochum in agreement with the University Clinic Knappschaft Hospital Bochum GmbH. The employment is based on a private law contract and is connected to the university in accordance with $ 9 (2) HG NRW.
