The Hospital of Ruhr-Universität Bochum (UK-RUB) is a merger of qualified hospitals and special medical institutes in the area of Bochum, Herne and East-Westphalia-Lippe co-operating with Ruhr-Universität. The UK-RUB is synonymous for health care on the utmost level and excellent research and teaching in the field of university medicine.

With effect as of October 1st, 2019, Johannes Wesling Klinikum Minden, university hospital of Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB), has a vacancy:

University professor (W3-analogue) as Director of the University Department
of Diagnostic Radiology, Neuroradiology and Nuclear medicine
(succession of Prof. W.-D. Reinbold, MD)

as the so far holder of the above position resigns on grounds of age.

Johannes Wesling Klinikum (JWK) is part of Mühlenkreiskliniken and as a university hospital of Ruhr-Universität Bochum, together with the other university hospitals in Lübbecke, Bad Oeynhausen and Herford, responsible for the practical part of the medical education in East-Westphalia-Lippe within the framework of Bochum’s university medicine.  

Being part of the association of Mühlenkreiskliniken (AÖR), the hospitals in Minden, Lübbecke, Rahden and Bad Oeynhausen treat about 200,000 patients every year. Johannes Wesling Klinikum has a total of 19 in-patient departments and five institutes. The university department for diagnostic radiology, neuroradiology and nuclear medicine is a central service provider and serves, apart from Johannes Wesling Klinikum, also the x-ray departments of the hospitals in Bad Oeynhausen, Lübbecke and Rahden. There are capacities for an already approved teleradiology.

The department’s focus so far is interventional neuroradiology, tumour diagnostics and artificial intelligence. More than 160,000 examinations were carried out at the above locations of the department last year.

The present medical equipment in Minden includes two spiral CT scanners, two MRT scanners, one detector for rotational angiography, a PET-CT scanner and two SPECT cameras; Lübbecke provides one CT and one MRT scanner, whereby the latter is used in co-operation with an x-ray surgery; Rahden has a CT scanner and Bad Oeynhausen is equipped with a CT scanner and a detector for rotational angiography. Conventional x-ray diagnostics are carried out with the help of digital radiography based on a state-of-the-art HIS- and KIS system.


We are looking for a national and international excellent personality with a high professional and scientific qualification and expertise combined with a broad experience in the clinical care of patients. Furthermore, this position demands leadership skills, social competence, organising abilities and communication skills. We presume special commitment and competence regarding research and teaching.

We imply the willingness to participate in clinical and scientific co-operations with the other departments of Mühlenkreiskliniken, the institutions of the Faculty of Medicine and the RUB university hospitals and the candidate’s willingness to participate in present and future research projects of the association.

The employment contract for this placement is for an unlimited period and will be signed with Mühlenkreiskliniken under private law. The link to the university will be effected according to Section 9 Paragraph 2 Hochschulgesetz NRW.

The director of the university hospital is a specialist in the field of radiology with focus on neuroradiology and will represent and be responsible for the entire department, including research, teaching and patient care. He/She has a great store of practical knowledge and experience in interventional radiology and interventional neuroradiology. The functional area of nuclear medicine will be managed by a specialist but is allocated to the overall department as far as organization is concerned.

Another requirement for this position is a positively evaluated junior professorship, habilitation or equal scientific achievements and a pedagogic qualification as well as the willingness to involve in the academic self-administration. Apart from an excellent scientific qualification and the successful procurement of third-party funds, the following qualities are demanded from the candidate as core competencies:


• High leadership competencies and skills concerning hospital management

• Willingness to perform interdisciplinary scientific activities; Networking abilities

• University-didactical competencies including a high commitment in terms of teaching

• Proof of special qualification for academic teaching
